More on the Middlefield Chief "Leave"

     I've got a call in to Middlefield Village Administrator Dan Weir to get the low-down on the Administrative Leave that was put on the Police Chief... As usual with Middlefield, it is a total goat screw.. And of course there is much "spin" and petty grievences... Oh boy... 

     I note that about a year ago the police department put out a "survey" of sorts asking how they were doing, so maybe the Chief had been threatened as far back as then with his job. It might not have helped that two years ago the Mayor "rescued" his brother from a boozed-up town run and then the Chief had an "investigation" (such as it was) "clearing" all cops involved. It was a 25-page report that favored the Mayor's action and said that despite the fact that the Mayor's brother admitted to the officers that he "should not drive" and surrended his keys (a clear admission that he had drank way, way too much), the officers were CORRECT in not administering sobriety tests or blood work-up. Hmmm... Maybe this "investigative report" (the burtonblog.com articles were included in the evidence) came back to snake bite the Chief... 

     This is all very interesting... I remember that a couple of years ago the Middlefield Police tried to put on a "Cop Ball" - a big affair at Grandview that was a total flop (the tickets were like $120 a couple and that flies like a lead balloon in Middlefield) and the Chief himself was named as the "Guest of Honor" despite the fact that a national artist was there promoting the main prize a Greenwich Workshop limited edition print as the first prize. 

     Lots of screw-ups. Perhaps these doomed the Middlefield Police Chief... Perhaps we will never know the real story. It was cowardly to have a lame-duck bunch of council members like the voted-out Edna Davis vote in the LAST MONTH of their service on such an important matter... Oh my...
