| African 'Do-Gooders' Do Much Harm |

This last post about Africa interests me greatly. I have hunted in the deep interior of Zimbabwe and seen their life styles and I have hunted and been in several towns in South Africa as well. I wasn't hunting all the time; rather I was attempting to see and witness Africa with my own eyes. What I observed was most revealing.
It might be wise to read James Jackson's essay on Africa in conjunction with my remarks here. The man is SPOT ON. I note that he says that the singer Bono and Geldof are somehow trying to make "us" responsible for the evils of Africa. Give me a break...
I note in one of last week's weekly shopper rags that a woman from Chesterland was featured - she goes every year to "help" the African orphanages or whatever. As James says in his article and he's so very right, is that all these "do-gooders" like this Chesterland gal are doing is making the Africans they touch dependent on them. They are NOT helping them cultivate land or get educated or stop spreading AIDS or become anything but a pitiful human holding their hands out for an American sent meal. Again: They are just giving a man a fish when in fact they should be TEACHING THEM TO FISH.
I've been in Africa. I've seen the slums. I've seen the villages so far out in the bush their kids have never been to school. I've seen their AIDS. I've seen their homeless children. I've seen these black women get pregnant over and over again with so many different men. As I waded through it 8500 miles from home, only one thing came to mind: I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THIS IS THEIR WAY OF LIFE AND IT SEEMS UNALTERABLE.
Let me give you some of my African observations: Six months ago I was in South Africa - way out on a compound/ranch - probably 40 miles from the nearest town of any size. The hunter's huts were grouped together where I stayed, the main farm house was central, the hunters' dining room/bar/kitchen was in another building, there was a slaughterhouse, meat drying shed, shed for tractors, etc. Then about 200 yards away for a couple of run-down galvanized sheds - something you might see on an Ohio farm to put tractors in or other farming equipment. This was where the 15 or so black lived.
Soon after arriving, I inquired of my PH's (Professional Hunter) wife what the black's "family structure" was. In other words, I asked her who the father of all the young children were and who were their mothers. Literally there were swarms of little kids running around these tin huts and fire rings all day and night long. And I saw darn few adult women. Her reply to me was this: "The young girls - once they are 13 or so - get rides into town to see their friends. Their trips can be two or three days. While they're there they get pregnant and then they come back here and have the babies one right after another. There is no attempt to find out who the father is because THEY DO NOT KNOW and do not care. The kids are raised here on the farm and then put to work. We're so far out in the bush that there is no school here, so they are not educated. When they're big enough they just drift away or they stay here and have more children that are put to work."
Hmmm... Sounds an awful lot like slavery to me. I asked her who gives medical care to these children and adults because some of them had big sores and were limping and didn't look too healthy. She said that if the are sick, they are taken into town and then go to the "free clinic". They are dropped off very early in the day because the line is OFTEN OVER A MILE LONG for medical attention!
So the bottom line is this: These fatherless children are raised as virtual slaves for the farm (the kids are not paid for their work, but the adults get a small salary as well as food and shelter)! And this is the MOST MODERN OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES! To get a job on a working farm is the best job they will ever get. Imagine that!
In South Africa there is intense segregation and NO mixing of the races socially or in terms of marriage (there is some of this in the big city of Jo-Berg however). For instance, we drove into Kimberly, South Africa for supplies. As you come in on the highway, the poorest of the poor are camped out there - they have plastic sheets fastened to the barbed wire fences and they are huddled under there. They pick up little rocks all day long and pile them up and occasionally builders come out and give them pennies for the piles. They are living off the land - whatever they can catch in their snares or beg from alongside the road.
As you get closer to town, you see shanty-town - about a mile square or more of tin sheds. No electricity. No water. They crap in a hole in the ground and sleep on the ground. Thousands of them in there! And every once in a while you see a BMW parked outside one of these and satellite TV dish on top of the tin. These would be the drug dealers. These would be the scam artists or someone who steals well. Oh boy...
Then the next wave of poverty (yes, you guessed it!): Government housing. These are cinder block buildings with electricity. According to my PH and his wife, these are for those who demonstrate intense need - a woman alone with five kids. It doesn't take them long to beat out the windows and trash the place. It's a mud walk up to them and kids are running everywhere.
In the city all businesses and white peoples' homes are like fortresses. Iron bars covering big heavy doors. Armed guards. Guard dogs. High security fences with cameras and rolling barbed wire like prisons have on the top of the houses and fences. A $150,000 house like we see here in Geauga County is the higher end in these white neighborhoods. House signs say: "Armed Guard Security" and "Guard Dogs". Very unsettling. As we went through town, I slid my safari rifle nearer... I was wishing for my carry guns I wear every day in Ohio, but for some reason they are illegal here... How ironic...
So I would say this to the lady in Chesterland and Bono and Nelson Mandela and all the other bleeding hearts: What do you think you are going to do with all of this? The answer is this: You are kidding yourself if you think you are going to do anything about it... Period. This lady in Chesterland can go to Africa for a week every year of her life and NEVER change a damn thing. Nothing. Nada. It's wasted energy. She is doing nothing but serving her own selfish interest. Stroking her own ego. These Africans are using her! They take her time and handouts and then wave good-bye and look for the next hand-outs. What she and Bono and Geldof have done is make a nation of NON-WORKERS. These blacks become nothing but people to learn to beg for a living.
OK, I am aware there are some programs that make these Africans actually WORK to better themselves. They teacher them how to farm, how to use better crops, how to take better care of themselves, etc. But these do-gooders are missing the point: IN AFRICA THE HUMAN LIFE IS NOT VALUED. Reread that last sentence. That's why most Africans die before age 40. And some of these are horrible deaths from AIDS...
Let me give you an example: A couple of years ago I was hunting cape buffalo in Zimbabwe and we finished the day's hunt way back in the concession and were coming out on a dirt road with our lights on. Big lionesses were crossing the road in front of the truck and when the headlights lit up their fangs they looked 10" long and their eyes as big as dinner plates. I was up on top of the safari truck with my heart racing and the safety off of my .375! We're seeing about 12 of these monsters and all of a sudden the safari truck stops and here's a teenager walking alongside the road! Now this dude is TEN MILES from the nearest little settlement. My PH proceeds to dress this dude down and ripped him a new a-hole! I asked him later what he said. My PH said the boy - about 18 or so - had a girlfriend in the next village and he got liquored up and horny and decided to hoof it through lion country to see his lover! Ha! By morning he would have been scattered and the vultures would be pulling at him!
Why did he do this? He did it because he did not value his life. The PH said that if he would have been killed by lions that night that the village might mourn him a while and then quickly forget it. NO VALUE ON HUMAN LIFE. How different we live here!
Now onto AIDS. I laugh until I cry when I hear one of these liberal actors or world health "experts" say they want to "stop" AIDS in the African countries. It ain't gonna happen. Never. Ever. AIDS is the natural reduction of population - it's nature's way of killing off the population and taking it down to a manageable level. We see it all the time in the animal population.
How does AIDS spread in Africa, you ask? In Zimbabwe there are many little villages out in the bush. Dirt roads or trails through the bush connect them somewhat. At the intersection of these dirt roads a proprietor will set-up a bar. This bar may have a tin roof. In front of it the bartender will beat down the bush so it is just sand - that is the dance floor. Then he'll get a stereo outfit and rig it to a car battery. The young village people (no pun intended here) gather there and drink heavily and dance. A young man may dance with a young woman and when they get lusty enough, they head to the bush and knock one off. The boy comes back to the "party", finds another girl and dances with her and then goes into the bush and repeats his "act" without washing himself off and of course without any birth control. African men just aren't going to use rubbers. No way.
Now these lusty boys go to other intersections - sometimes in the same night - no showers - no bathing in between and have sex with even more women. Get it? Now you tell me how Bono or Geldof or the bleeding hearts who go to Africa to "do-good" are going to prevent that? Not even the threat of death stops them, so why would some missionary get to them? Most of these boys and girls aren't educated to begin with, so they are just going through life from hand to mouth - eating, screwing and other feel good activities that amount to nothing but sickness and eventually death... Throwing money at that problem will not work. A significant amount of the population has to die off... The fit will survive... It's in nature's hands now.
James is also right about Zimbabwe's economy and inflation. Right now it costs over SIX MILLION DOLLARS to eat a decent breakfast in that grand old African country. Last I heard, Mugabe loped off three zeros of the last printed currency to "try" to keep inflation under control! Oh my... Why did this happen? President Mugabe decided he'd "take back" white settlers' land AND GIVE IT TO THE BLACKS. I've written several blog posts about this in the past, so if you want more info, hit the "Archives" button and read for more detail. One of my Zimbabwe friends (white couple) had their beautiful farm seized by a Mugabe thug squad and they escaped with only that which could carry! They are native born Zimbabweians! The blacks immediately let the agricultural land go to the bush. This is why the economy is horrible - there is no production of ANYTHING there!
I could go on and on and I will revisit this African situation in future posts. There is no solution, so I won't offer any. But I get so very disgusted at these Americans who travel 8500 miles away from home and PRETEND they are "helping" these Africans! It's a joke. Look, if the lady in Chesterland wants to help blacks, why doesn't she just hike her ass over to the Projects in East Cleveland and hold some orphan kids there?! That's only 30 miles away and she would be helping Americans! Here there is a solution.
One more point: Don't you liberals see that Africa's problems are because of socialism? Those blacks are so very beholden to their government. They go to the government for food, for shelter, for medical attention and protection. It's sad. That is why they can't take care of themselves. Their cry is: "Get the land from the White Man and give it to us! It's our land!" It's the WHITE MAN who is keeping their economy going and it's the WHITE MAN who is making the land work and produce.
It's funny that nearly all the black leaders who were elected had a platform of the government GIVING their "subjects" food and shelter and protection rather than encouraging the individual to stay healthy and WORK. Hmm... Sounds like the Obama crap we hear all the time. Let the government take care of you... And wasn't this creep's "father" from Africa? Hmmmm....
