Burton Bits:
Harriman's Three DUI's: I wasn't ready for the response on the Berkshire coach/teacher who is about ready to be charged with his THIRD DUI this decade... Oh my... I got quite a few E-Mails and basically each one was this: "What the f---? Why was this guy allowed to teach our children?" Last night my girlfriend and I walked into the Middlefield Tavern and the first thing I heard was a former Berkshire graduate telling me that she agreed with my "take" on the whole situation - she has children in Berkshire. So if the Berkshire super does not recommend dismissal after Harriman's THIRD DUI, then all hell will break loose. The board must do the right thing. Of course. I have confidence they will. I have confidence in Berkshire Board President James Koster - he has over 35 years of educational experience and has led the charge to fire MANY teachers who don't belong in the profession during his years of working in three different school districts.
Now this question: WHY was Harriman even teaching with TWO DUI's and WHY was he talking about these sordid experiences to our Berkshire children all the WHILE HE WAS NOT ONLY BOOZING, BUT DRIVING AROUND GEAUGA COUNTY DRUNKER THAN HELL? I can answer that: I saw Harriman at the board meeting with his immediate supervisor - Mr. Steve Reedy - Berkshire Jr./High School principal. I would bet my bottom dollar that there was some kind of a "deal" struck to allow Harriman to continue to teacher after the SECOND DUI in 2006 (he's been in the Berkshire Schools for eight years). Whatever, but there can be NO defending him now. He's finished here and perhaps finished as a teacher/coach anywhere... Remember that Harriman will have to run through the state examining board gauntlet concerning his teacher/coach certification... I doubt they spare him either... Time will tell. Nothing is going to happen (except his firing as Berkshire head football coach - a position he never got to start) until he goes to trial and is convicted of the third DUI. Perhaps at the start of the school year he will be incarcerated and that will be that. I don't know why this Harriman doesn't man-up and simply write a letter of resignation - it would be best for all concerned.
Commissioners Grossly Over-Spending: Also getting LOTS of comments was the story about the three Geauga County Commissioners who were crying about being ONE MILLION DOLLARS SHORT on their already bloated budget, but spending like drunken sailors this year on a $3.1 million GARAGE, giving 3% raises to select county workers (and ignoring the rest of the workers for some reason), giving out hundreds of thousands of dollars ($360 per county worker) to "work out" at the gym of their choice or go to a "fat farm". Can you believe it? THESE IDIOTS ARE ACTING LIKE LIBERAL DOPES - SPEND, SPEND, SPEND - THEN COME BACK TO THE PUBLIC AND BEG FOR MORE MONEY WHEN EXHAUSTED OR PUT A HIGHER SALES TAX UP. Incredible! Make the cuts! We don't need all of these old folks centers or joints where cry-baby dumbasses boo-hoo about being too weak to handle booze or drugs or half the workers or all of these "give-me" programs going on in this county. No way, no how!
Some county workers have GIVEN BACK the $360 "fat farm" money BECAUSE THEY HAD TO PAY TAXES ON IT and it's not widely used either across the board. Oh boy... All is lost... Oh the horror, oh the horror... Dopes are running the show! Come on commissioners! YOU HAVE TO BE BETTER THAN THIS!
Burton Car Shows: There was a well attended car show at Century Village yesterday and it was quite a treat to see all of the antique and muscle cars rumble through town. Quite a nice use of the Geauga County Historical grounds and an event that surely was in keeping with their historical mission. Last Wednesday was a beautiful evening in Burton and "Dave the DJ" was back in place spinning Beach Boy and Elvis tunes. About 100 antique and muscle cars attended, so the car show has revived itself somewhat... Still a shadow of what it once was. We ate at Tom and Jerry's about seven and the food was excellent. It's a pleasure to see the cars and crowd back again. Let's hope it holds!
General McChrystal: I finally got to read the entire Rolling Stone article where General McChrystal supposedly "insults" his "commanding officer" (I use that term rather loosely). I didn't read one thing would merit this fine soldier being relieved of command. Not one. He let loose with a few "f" bombs and a few "shits" and cussed a few of the politicians (not Obama) and sighed when he got some stilted text messages and refused to answer the phone a few times. The article starts with McChrystal complaining because he has to go to a stuffed shirt dinner in Paris. So what? Mostly his "aides" were the ones cutting on the war strategy, not McChrystal. This liberal asshole Rolling Stone bed-wetter twisted everything to be anti-war and screwed up. The troops should have taken him out on a one-way trip in the desert... I can't believe McChrystal would let a liberal dickhead from a liberal dickhead magazine get close to him. What DID he expect from that particular writer and the ULTRA-LIBERAL drugged-out Jann Wenner editing the piece? Wenner and the whole magazine are a bunch of anti-war hippies. The pussies cried like hell when an enemy hit Manhattan, but NOW they think war is wrong... They can't have it both ways - but that's part of the DNA of being a hypocritical liberal... Come on! There was a rat in the nest...
Ferrari Heaven: As you know, I am a Ferrari freak and have loved those cars since I was a little kid with Matchbox toys! Yee haw! Greatest sports car in the world! Love the looks, performance, leather, sound and response. I could go on and on. I belong to the Ohio Ferrari Club and Sunday we met at a couple's house in Aurora - some 50 cars strong for breakfast and left there and rocketed through a 35 mile course out in the country and then ended up enmass at Little Italy. The mayor of Little Italy blocked off all the parking spots for us and we had valet/guards watching the cars along Main Street while we ate wonderful Italian food at Maxi's on the patio! WHAT A DAY! My heart was beating out of its chest with adrenalin after that wild race through the Metro Parks and the country. I was behind a $300,000 Spyder and to hear that engine was a treat I will not long forget! Ahead of me was the greatest modern Ferrari (my dream car) a 599 (about $350,000 new) and it was SCREAMNG through those turns with me and my somewhat flustered date hanging on for dear life. I was slamming gears, ripping into the curves and keeping the big engine up on its power curve trying to keep up with these SUPER CARS - these are the "dream cars" you read about in the car mags! It was a real rush to stand out on the streets of Little Italy and see Ferraris for a half mile through the town. The residents were in big crowds looking at the favorite car of their homeland. Pretty freakin' cool. I hated to go home! WHAT A DAY IN PARADISE! My favorite sports car, my beautiful companion, great friends and wonderful food.
Great Week For Gun Owners: This week was ANOTHER landmark Supreme Court case for gun owners and we WON AGAIN! Yeee haaaawww! Chicago vs. McDonald was a case whereby a Chicago citizen challenged the highly restrictive Chicago gun laws (you can't own a gun there for home protection) based on his Second Amendment right. He won! The Supreme Court said that the Second Amendment was in effect in every town, every city, EVERY PLACE in the USA. But then we knew that, right?! Of course. Mayor Daly is beyond pissed off and that's just - he's a big liberal liar and hypocrite - he has armed guards around him at all times, but the citizens of Chicago aren't allowed to... Does that make sense? Of course not. So we put it to the liberals! And just as we suspected: The newest member of the court - the lady judge - IS ANTI-GUN. But then we knew that too! A great, great victory for gun owners! This is the SECOND huge victory in a year. Tuck and go!
