Sub HB 234 - Concealed Carry Improvements Has Passed the Ohio Senate and House, On to Gov. Kasich For Signing - HUGE Victory!
HB234 moved fast in this past week. After OFCC sent out our last alert, it brought quite a bit of attention to HB 203, HB 234, and SB 338. This caused some fast action to take place in the statehouse and Sub HB234 was introduced on December 9th in the Senate, passed the same day, and passed in a concurance by the House the following day. It will go into effect 90 days after it's signed by the Governor and filed with the Secretary of State. We strongly believe Governor Kasich will sign this sweeping piece of gun legislation there we are proud to announce it. Sub HB 234 brings a short summary of the following changes to Ohio gun laws.
Ohio will recognize all out of state concealed handgun licenses.
NICS will now be run on all new and renewal applications. This will make sure those that can legally possess a firearm can also have a CHL. Once the ATF updates their records, this will allow a CHL to be used to purchase a firearm from an FFL.
The CLEO is now required to sign off on all Form 4's (NFA items) as long as the person passes a CHL style background check.
Hunters may legally use suppressors
31+ round magazines are now legal to use in Ohio
Out of state residents that are employed in Ohio can get an Ohio CHL
Instructors certified by any national gun advocacy organization may certify CHLs in Ohio
Minor-misdemeanors cannot be considered in CHL disqualifications
Class is reduced to 8 hours (still 2 hours live fire training) and may be taught online
