The biggest error you can make is to NEVER look at where your Real Estate Tax money goes.  Most of you probably have the bank pay it with your monthly house payment and neglect to see how it's broken out.  If you haven't seen it in a while, it's time to sit up and pay attention.  Open your mail or trot down to the bank or county office and get a copy of your "Real Estate Tax Bill".  Read your homework!

     I got a heated call from Burton Volunteer Fire Chief Mike Sestak tonight disputing Kelly Thompson's previous post earlier today.  He gave me so much information I couldn't get it all down, but I did remember his response to this question:  "Mike, are some of the calls to back-up other fire departments rather than serve the Burton people?"  Answer:  "Yes."  I asked for a breakdown of the call list and he said he would get that.  I told him that I didn't think MY TAX DOLLARS should go to bucking up the smaller volunteer departments in the area and that I knew they made MANY runs to Burton Health Care.  And ...

     I darted into the Berkshire School Board meeting tonight (they only last about 20 minutes, so it was nearly over by the time I got there at 6:20 pm!  Oh my...).  Anyway, the athletic director was fielding a question from a parent about the need for a track/new football stadium.

     OK, it would be lovely to have a NEW rubber track and football stadium on the "now not so vacant land" across from the Fairgrounds.  Imagine how cool that would be!  But there's one little speedbump (make that the Grand Canyon...) on the way to glory:  MONEY.  There ain't none of it...  And we sure wouldn't ...

     Speaking about the fire district, I have always wondered for years why each township has their own fire department.  Please, add the trucks from Middlefield, Burton, and Newbury and tell me when they were in use at the same time.  How much money is invested in the equipment?  I believe that township fire departments were designed for township jurisdictions when they were horse pulled.  A ladder truck cost about 500,000 dollars and we have three on SR-87 in Geauga County.  It is time that we grouped the fire departments together.  Taxpayers are running out of money.  Maybe we should start a Geauga Fire ...
